Ravello to Atrani: A Short Stepped Walk to the Sea
The walk from Ravello down to Atrani is a shorter, steeper version of the descent to the coast: a stepped path that drops from the hilltop town to one of the smallest and most charming villages on the Amalfi Coast. It is scenic going down and a stiff climb coming back.

At a glance
Figures below are approximate and depend on the exact route and your pace — follow local signage and check conditions before you set out.
- Route: Ravello down to Atrani
- Terrain: stepped paths and lanes — many steps, mostly downhill
- Difficulty: easy going down, strenuous on the climb back
- Duration: a short descent of roughly half an hour or so at a comfortable pace, plus stops
- Best season: spring and autumn; take care after rain
What the walk is like
The path descends from Ravello through lanes and long flights of steps to Atrani, which sits in a narrow valley right on the sea next to Amalfi. Atrani is one of the smallest municipalities in Italy by area and keeps a quiet, local feel, with a small beach and a compact old centre. From Atrani it is only a short walk around the coast to Amalfi, so the two are easily combined.
Getting back up
As with the longer Ravello to Amalfi walk, the climb back up to Ravello is steep. Many walkers descend on foot and return by SITA Sud bus or taxi. Check current timetables with SITA Sud.
Safety and what to bring
Wear supportive, non-slip shoes for the steps, which can be slippery when wet, and carry water and sun protection. Take the descent slowly, and skip it in heavy rain. It is not suitable for anyone who struggles with long flights of steps.
