Naples to Amalfi Coast: Every Transfer Option Explained
Naples is the gateway to the Amalfi Coast—whether you're arriving at Capodichino Airport, Centrale train station, or the port. This guide covers every option for completing your journey, from budget-friendly buses to luxury private transfers.
From Naples Airport (Capodichino)
Private Transfer (Recommended)
A driver meets you at arrivals, handles luggage, and delivers you directly to your accommodation. Door-to-door, stress-free, especially valuable after long flights.
- To Ravello: 90 minutes, €120-150
- To Positano: 75 minutes, €110-140
- To Amalfi: 80 minutes, €100-130
Book in advance through your accommodation or reputable transfer companies. Prices are per vehicle (up to 3-4 passengers), making this excellent value for couples or families.
Bus Service (Budget Option)
SITA buses connect Naples to the coast, but there's no direct service from the airport. You'll need to reach Naples Centrale station first (Alibus, 20 minutes, €5), then continue via Sorrento or Salerno.
- Total journey: 3-4 hours with connections
- Total cost: approximately €15-20
- Challenging with luggage; multiple transfers
From Naples Centrale Station
Via Sorrento (Western Route)
Step 1: Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (70 minutes, €4.50). Trains run every 20-30 minutes from the lower level of Centrale station.
Step 2: SITA bus from Sorrento to Amalfi (90 minutes, €3). Scenic coastal road journey. For Ravello, change at Amalfi.
Via Salerno (Eastern Route)
Step 1: Trenitalia train to Salerno (35-45 minutes, €5-12 depending on train type).
Step 2: SITA bus from Salerno to Amalfi (75 minutes, €2.90). Or ferry in season.
The Salerno route is often faster and less crowded than via Sorrento.
By Ferry (Seasonal)
From April to October, ferries run from Naples (Molo Beverello port) directly to the Amalfi Coast. The most scenic arrival, though subject to weather.
- Naples to Amalfi: 90 minutes, €18-25
- Naples to Positano: 80 minutes, €20-28
- 2-4 departures daily in season
For Ravello: ferry to Amalfi, then bus (25 minutes) or taxi (15 minutes, €25-30).
Our Recommendation
For most travelers, a pre-booked private transfer from Naples airport offers the best balance of value, comfort, and convenience. After long flights, the simplicity of stepping into an air-conditioned car and arriving directly at your Ravello villa is worth the modest extra cost.
Your vacation begins when you sit in that car—not when you've navigated train connections with heavy luggage.
